乾泰祥丝绸有限公司创始于同治二年（1863年）。是苏州商会的第一批成员。开业伊始是坐落于宫巷口的一开间小店，由周以漠独家出资。1923年“协记”老板姚氏等人盘下乾泰祥，1924年翻建扩大了营业面积，1929年观前街拓宽，乾泰祥再次翻建，拆迁了五间店面，耗资五万银洋建成八开间三层钢骨水泥楼。直至1999年3月观前改造拆除，迁至大成坊口。 　　一百多年以来的经营历史虽几易店主，多次翻建，但“绫罗绡绉丝纱”的绸缎经营在苏城最为突出。新中国成立后，乾泰祥的经营不断发展，除绸缎外，精粗纺呢绒，棉布化纤，应有尽有。 　　乾泰祥的经营特色是：自采原料，自定花型、加工染色，并承制本店购料的男女服装加工。 　　百年绫罗绸缎、精粗纺呢绒经营。质量上乘，价格公道，童叟无欺。花样日日新，商誉海内外。
